The Imposter Who Makes All My Art

I think that perhaps all of us deal with some type of imposter syndrome scenario regardless of what creative endeavor you might be taking on. However, personally as an artist I feel like this battle is constant an unchanging throughout my time as an artist. Perhaps it’s a somewhat Human Experience to go through peaks and valleys but I feel as though I could never graduate past this idea that I’m faking being an artist.

It’s interesting because thinking back to my childhood I can’t really Target any particular time where people were unsupportive of me doing art and in fact it’s been quite the opposite while I was never overly serious about art every doodle I did got hung on the fridge and praised by my parents. and I can certainly remember getting some drawing kits and watercolor sets as birthday and Christmas gifts.

I think what set me down this path perhaps was unfortunately one of my biggest Inspirations for entering into art more seriously was getting into graphic design. when I was younger and learning that like everything in the world had to be designed at some point like even just the sign you see for the the tool store that you go to every weekend with your grandpa or a burger shop in your local Town somebody had to have made that.

unfortunately the side effect of coming into a passion for art this way was an all-encompassing idea of the need to monetize and gain from my work next thing you know I’m learning about day rates and networking and blah blah blah when all I really wanted to do was just draw some stuff and I just thought it was cool that someone made a burger logo.

I’m not sure how i ever got so lost from that point but I had to go off Trail to try and find my way back and I’ve been forging A New Path ever since. I suppose if I have to look at it in a positive light it’s almost like I get to overcome a great obstacle every time I draw something and maybe that does something maybe I’m a little more critical and my art is a little bit better for it but I certainly do find myself envious of the people who can sketch all day and fill up a book.

perhaps the challenge within this is that I need to buy myself a SketchBook and challenge myself to fill it up front and back every page
